Hey, Y'all
Why Does a Southern Drawl Sound Uneducated to Some?: Stereotypes based on accent are deep rooted and they have profound consequences. Accents influence who we select as friends, who we respect with authority and leadership, where we prefer to live, employment, and to the very real extent our personal aspirations in life as a consequence of self-perception directing ambition in education and other endeavors.

Well, all I can say is that very, very few people were or are less "dimwitted" than, say, the "heavily accented" Flannery O'Connor, William Faulkner or Eudora Welty!
I think this may be one of the things that makes it difficult for me to fully enjoy Stephen King's fiction. No matter where the stories are set, he always writes the dialog of the most ignorant, evil, or dimwitted character as if they're from below the Mason Dixon line.
