A Birthday

While we were in Austin last weekend, we celebrated our son's birthday a little early (it was yesterday). And we got a surprise. He was trying to read the back of a DVD pack and couldn't. Judy pulled out a pair of old magnifying glasses she'd bought years ago and handed them to him. He was amazed to discover how easily he could read the words and how clear they were. It was a little of a shock to us to me and Judy to realize that he's starting to get far-sighted. How can that happen to someone who's so young? Well, maybe 41 isn't that young, after all, come to think of it. Happy birthday, Allen!

Happy birthday, Allen. With or without the reading glasses. My Blushing Bride (@ 36 years of age) has perfect vision but occasionally has to drag some simple magnifying glasses out of her purse for reading or close work.

I'm 42 and I've been noticing that I have to hold some things a bit further away than I'm used to. Is that far-sightedness? In any event, happy birthday to your boy and congrats to you and the Mrs.

Happy B'day to the kid. I've been nearsighted since 4th grade. I'd call him a late bloomer.

Hey, some of us were Born farsighted (alas, only literally). It's getting the cataracts, and replacement lenses, at 46 that hurts...the second lens, with less anesthesia, more than the first...happy birthday, Allen Crider...and get off my rock garden, you early-40s young'n.
