He played a lot of sort of bland supporting roles, and his finest hour was definitely as the father in SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS.

I dunno, I'll have to look at that one again. He was scary as hell in THE GRIFTERS...which brings us back to Donald Westlake.

What a career! Poster child for longevity. Always remember him as the hanging judge in Clint Eastwood's Hang 'em High.

For my generation, Hingle was Commissioner Gordan in the first four Batman films. At the time, I didn't know who he was. Still haven't seen many of his films. He'll always be the Commissioner to me.
