Phil Everly, R. I. P.
latimes.com: Phil Everly, who with his brother, Don, made up the most revered vocal duo of the rock-music era, their exquisite harmonies profoundly influencing the Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Byrds and countless younger-generation rock, folk and country singers, died Friday in Burbank of complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, his wife, Patti Everly, told The Times. He was 74.

Goldurn, this really hits home. Another icon of my youth gone. RIP, Phil, and thanks for the many beautiful sounds. *sniff*
That sucks. I hadn't realized Phil was only 18 when they made it big in 1957. We saw them at Madison Square Garden as "special guests" with Simon & Garfunkel in December of 2003 and the four of them did "Bye Bye Love" together, which was great.

"Songs Our Daddy Taught Us" is a brilliant album. I'm putting it on the 33 and 1/3 now.
Is it just me or is 74 way too young to check out?
I brought a greatest hits CD home a couple months ago and used iTunes to send it to my iPod.
My wife was complaining that the Everly Brothers were then on her iTunes on the computer. She had no idea who they were.

August, I have that album. Really like the songs on it. But then I have several EB albums, and I like the songs on all of them.
When I was 16 and scamming the Columbia Record Club, one of the introductory albums I got was A Date With the Everly Brothers. It had some good tracks on it. I especially liked Girls Were Made to Love and Love Hurts.
