I have no idea what is the cut-off between children's books and young adults, so I'm not sure if Lloyd Alexander's Prydain series would have qualified. And I'm surprised to see "Face In The Frost" by John Bellairs listed as adult fare. (That book has the best decription of a fantasy location - the living room of Prospero - that I've ever read!)
