Superconductor: Mahler, Interrupted: The Avery Fisher Hall audience, ripped in an untimely fashion from Mahler's complicated sound-world, reacted with "seething rage." Someone shouted "Thousand dollar fine."
This was followed by cries of 'Get out!' and 'Kick him out!.' Some people started clapping rhythmically but the hall was quieted down. House security did not intervene or remove the offender.

Veteran concertgoers get their hackles up & contemplate homicide at COUGHERS during the final pages of Mahler 9 (I have). I'm surprised - and disappointed - that the Phil audience didn't dismember this idiot on the spot.

What is thought to be progress has, indeed, become a scourge. Quite frankly, I can think of few people who are so important that they even need a cell phone, let alone, carry one into a concert hall. How sad that we have become so self-important. It's the electronic equivalent of drawing a moustache on the Mona Lisa.
