And what business is that? Well, there's the power-mad saloon owner and the homesteaders. Need I say more? I guess I should, since there's more to it than that and since the plot does have a few twists and turns. Hitch and Cole are, at first, on the side of the saloon owner. But things change.
There's plenty of discussion of what a man's gotta do, as you'd expect in a Parker novel, and plenty of shooting, all handled matter-of-factly. Parker must have watched Deadwood, since there's also plenty of cussing. Plenty of short sentences, short paragraphs, and white space, as well. Very few question marks, though. Maybe it's a style thing.
The book's nearly 300 pages, but you'll finish it in a jiffy. Nothing wrong with that, and I've admitted before that I'm an unabashed admirer of Parker's work (though there are some who would like to abash me for that). I liked this one, too, and I eagerly await the one where Cole and Hitch take on Texas.

I'll probably read Resolution next... as soon as I finish the latest by Stark. I'm also a Parker fan [at least of these westerns and the Spenser books].
Yeah, there is no doubt, I'm a Parker fan from the get go - no matter what the nay-sayers say.
Whenever a new Parker comes out -- doesn't matter what series or western or stand alone -- I put down whatever I'm reading at the moment and pick up the Parker. I don't pick up anything else until it's done.
I also enjoy listening to CD audio books of Parker's stuff. They translate well to audio.
I'm always glad to know I'm not the only Parker fan around.
I've read and enjoyed all but a couple of Parker's books, the critics notwithstanding. They are always a quick, enjoyable read and what more could you ask from a book.
I'm a big Parker fan, too. I can't wait to find an ex-lib copy of this book for $1.00.
You're a haaaaarrrd man, Cap'n.
I've been reading Parker since Valediction and other than a dip in quality in the early 90s, I've enjoyed everything he's put out. Some of his best work has been the non-Spenser books like the Jesse Stone novels, Appaloosa and Poodle Springs. I'm finishing up a Max Phillips Hard Case and then I will grab Resolution.
