Every now then there are even scripts and films that can elevate the status of a work of art. Not often.

But movies now are all about the cash-in, making a profit. So many sequels, re-makes and needless copies of other movies' themes. It is no longer about fun, but only about seeing what they can release, with a new star, or what the kids can convince the parents to take them to.

Simply this is my own opinion, of course.}}SWBnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3668066.post-68188418981162434522016-12-26T18:59:45.138-06:002016-12-26T18:59:45.138-06:00Might be there is not right, nor wrong way to rank...Might be there is not right, nor wrong way to rank.
Star Wars / Empire / Return of Jedi is a favorite of many from mine and slightly older generations. Some people like none of them.

The later movies, the prequel series, are enjoyed by later generations or the kids now, or they just don't like them at all (usually the former, not the latter, as I can tell).

And I think possibly I might know of which I speak, I've read and looked into over a dozen interviews (just SW) and books on the lives of Spielberg and Lucas and quite a few other filmmakers and speculative fiction/fantasy writers. STAR WARS 1977 was quite good, or at least original (yes, I know about the borrowing of themes from TWELVE O'CLOCK HIGH and Kurosawa-directed movies) but there it is. People started going to cinemas again after 1977 and look where it brought us now over 38 years on.SWB.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3668066.post-145825241392269212016-12-14T23:46:25.170-06:002016-12-14T23:46:25.170-06:00I strongly agree with the top 2. The ranking of these movies depends solely on the personal opinion about the three episode 1-3 films, which seem to get an instinctive thumbs down from more people. I always say if they had come out in that order originally, people would have loved them.Rick Robinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07978136287154214297noreply@blogger.com
