I liked these lists better when the authors were willing to take a stand. "The 8 Worst SF Movie Remakes Ever!" Much bolder, assertive, and authoritative than "8 of the worst sf movie remakes."
I will have to say that re-making "The Thing" and "Godzilla were really bad ideas.
I disagree with no.4. I was always a fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger and so it goes without saying, the original Total Recall. However, I really like the newest version, especially the sfx, which a film like that benefits from.
The remake of Invaders from Mars that was made in the 80s is possibly the worst science fiction film remake ever, even worse than Keanu Reeves in The Day the Earth Stood Still. I suspect not that many people are familiar with either the original or the remake and that is probably why those two films never show up on lists like this.
I've made a point of refusing to see any of these.
In the '80s I was not as discriminating (i.e. I watched virtually anything) so did see the rotten remake of INVADERS FROM MARS starring Karen Black and her son. The original was one of my favorite movies as a kid. The remake was, to be kind, unnecessary.
Come to think of it, there was also a made-for-TV remake of THE TIME MACHINE with John Beck and Priscilla Barnes in the late '70s, one of a series of cheesy "Classics Illustrated" TV movies on NBC. Incredibly, it's posted in its entirety on YouTube.

Some people think the remake of THE THING is superior to the original. I'm not one of them.

The 2014 "remake" of GODZILLA, if better than the lousy 1998 movie, was still no great shakes.
Reportedly, Gore Verbinski directed some if not most if not all of the TIME MACHINE remake.
Surprised the two remakes of ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU didn't show up.

Naturally, I would have included WAR OF THE WORLDS on that list.
I haven't seen the remake of Rollerball, but the original is an underrated classic, and everyone seems to agree the remake is God-awful...
I'd say the remake of "The Thing" was in itself quite good, but unfortunately also totally pointless. Unless you want to hear norwegian being spoken.
