Hope you're managing to keep dry, Bill. We were expecting some of that bad weather to hit us yesterday, but--despite a steady downpour of rain--so far it's been manageable. Take care.
My daughter worked at Astroworld for a couple of summers.
It was supposed to stop raining here yesterday afternoon. It's still raining. My rain gauge has overflowed, so I don't know how much it's rained, other than that it's rained more than 5 inches.
Is the "David McCullough" mentioned in the piece the historian/author?
My sister and her husband, whose home in Houston was pretty well ruined in the previous flooding (and, fortunately, repairs had not yet really begun--they had reached the point of having all the previous destruction cleared away), are becoming increasingly happy that they are about to move to a new hilltop home in New Braunfels.
Here in Plano, it was not supposed to rain today. At least yesterday it was not though by last night late we had a ten percent chance. It was 20 percent this morning according to all the television arm wavers. Drizzle this morning turned into rain before noon that has lasted all day.

Oh--and here's another "Texas led the way" story: http://m.chron.com/entertainment/article/AstroWorld-closed-down-10-years-ago-this-week-6591511.php

We were lucky, Seymour got 3 inches last week when the storm first came up this way, then on the 30th we got another two inches. Nothing but rain, however. I don't know how Wichita Falls did. We just got the edge of the storm, and it went east pretty quick. WF may have received more than Seymour. My niece and her fiancé drove up from San Antonio for her brother's Memorial service, then had to drive back afterwards. It got rough, and they had to spend the night between Seymour and San Antonio. But they're safe at home now.
Glad they're safe. The San Antonio area really had some rough weather.

I'm pretty sure it's not THE "David McCullough."
In that area, a hilltop is a good place to be.
Very glad you missed the twisters, Bill.

It's finally stopped raining here. Maybe it's over. For a while.
