Do You Actually Remember How To Write In Cursive

Anyone else remember the grade school grade reports? I always got a "-" in "penmanship." And that was being generous to me. I *can* write cursive, but you wouldn't want to try to read it.

My oldest (almost 23) writes in cursive, but by the time the twins (17) were in grade school, penmanship was no longer taught. They manage some sort of scrawl for their signatures, but all their school work is either hand-printed or typed and printed out from a computer. In fact, some of their teachers skip the paper step altogether now; they want the work on a document file uploaded to the school server.

My 5th grade teacher was a cursive demon. We had a little workbook and everything. I was terrible, but my writing now is still legible when I take my time. And I got 100% on the little test the link goes to.

I am also a chicken scratch cursive writer and I usually mix script with block printing. My mother and sisters have excellent penmanship but I don't have that gene, I guess.

I wrote fairly illegible cursive until I finished college and went to work full time as a draftsman in 1971. That meant constant manual block printing which I ultimately was able to do almost as fast as cursive, though stylistically it was never great. I was very happy to convert to CAD drafting in the '80's. My printing no longer was relevant. I still tend to print when pen and paper are required.
