Another good list, though I still don't get the whole "Louie Louie" thing.
NYC top 10 of 9/8/65:
1 3 LIKE A ROLLING STONE - Bob Dylan 2 2 HELP! - The Beatles 3 5 EVE OF DESTRUCTION - Barry McGuire 4 4 UNCHAINED MELODY - The Righteous Brothers 5 1 I GOT YOU BABE - Sonny & Cher 6 8 HANG ON SLOOPY - The McCoys 7 18 THE “IN” CROWD - The Ramsey Lewis Trio 8 6 CALIFORNIA GIRLS - The Beach Boys 9 13 YOU WERE ON MY MIND - We Five 10 7 CATCH US IF YOU CAN - The Dave Clark Five
Speaking of Dylan's the version of his It Ain't Me, Babe by The Turtles jumped from 21 to 12. Other big jumps: Some Enchanted Evening by Jay & the Americans (38 to 21) and Treat Her Right by Roy Head & The Traits ("Sure SHot" to 27).
Roy Head is still around, and although he never had another hit like that one, he's still playing clubs in Texas. One of his nieces was my student secretary once at the college.

That was meant to read:
Dylan,
Roy Head is still around, and although he never had another hit like that one, he's still playing clubs in Texas. One of his nieces was my student secretary once at the college.
They did a pretty good version of "Treat Her Right" in The Commitments, as I remember.
