I loved the movie that Cornel Wilde made based on the novel. I've wanted to read the book, but haven't come across a copy yet.
I read this book in 8th grade...I recall nothing very shocking, I must have been less impressionable than the people at the Saturday Evening Post./Also, I may be wrong, but I think the book was later republished with a different title.
Well, if Wikipedia is to be trusted, the original title was THE DEATH OF GRASS which was later republished with the new title based on the title of the movie.
