One of the programs the boys most enjoyed (probably because of the "danger factor") was learning to whittle and properly use their knives. Throughout the rest of the camp period, I several times heard boys correcting their peers about safety concerns while using their knives. <br /><br />If you take away the knife, you lose a lot in learning how to use it properly and to respect its value _and_ hazard.
