I doubt if anyone really wants to know what this novel is about. I'm pretty sure that the summary I found (https://www.enotes.com/topics/heavens-my-destination) won't make anyone more interested in reading it.

Does anyone these days regard Wilder as a major American author?

I think shares in Wilder are down, but I still have fond memories of reading THE BRIDGE OF SAN LUIS REY and OUR TOWN when I was in high school.

Have not read this one, but am fond of TW. His writing seems to me to always be a little off-center in tone and viewpoint, which I like. I think he hit his jackpot with The Bridge ... & Our Town.
