A very strange list.

I was going to say that too. Very, very odd,

If 24 of them don't feature Dan Rhodes then something is wrong.

I'm embarrassed and ashamed to admit I've read only 18 of the 25 books and I did see a few I want to read.

I'm with Patti & Jeff...a very strange group of books. I've read 10 or so, and attempted another 5 or 6...for example, I tried to read Siddhartha in the late '60s, and thought it was pretentious twaddle. And, at this point, the only one I might try is the collection of Baldwin's pieces on movies.

Seems a bit of a mixed bag--as if they asked 25 different people for one recommendation each. Also--four children's books? I'll stick with lists that include MIDDLEMARCH and COUSIN BETTE.

Sez who? The only one I've read, if you can call it that, was The Elements of Style.

Everyone has a list and this wouldn't be mine, but there are a few good ones in it. I would say that Hesse's Magister Ludi (The Glass Bead Game) far outshines Siddhartha. As always, hurrah for The Elements of Style!

I read 16 of the books listed. I'm not sure I would want to read the rest.

Only read 6. Only got half way through Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenence.
