Birth of A Nation is the only one I've seen. My high school Great Books teacher took a dozen of his students (me included) into L. A. To see it. There's an awful lot more to it than the KKK part, and overall I don't remember it being racial, anti-racial, or anything else other that a vast look at the early years of the States.

I've seen about half of them. Now I need to see the rest.

"Need" to see is a bit strong. SALO is more depressing than shocking, for example, and a mix of the convincingly desparing and the OTT...while DEEP THROAT is so very unsexy. LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT is just inept. Even the slicked up remake is a better film, but one might as well see THE VIRGIN SPRING, which is much more powerful since it's well-made. (A while back, I wrote about how TVS, PSYCHO and PEEPING TOM were big Sources of Controversy in 1960, though only PEEPING TOM actually suffered commercially for it...Britain being very hostile to horror and horrorish suspense in those decades, even given the rise of Hammer and their colleagues.)

I really like CRASH (not the Oscar-winner, which I revile), and almost like A CLOCKWORK ORAGE...
