You’re Either Born an Artist Or You’re Not

You’re Either Born an Artist Or You’re Not: [Philipp]Meyer may be a Pulitzer finalist, a recipient of a Guggenheim, and one of the New Yorker‘s “20 Under 40,” but he’s also had a fascinating road to literary prominence: he was a high-school dropout, a trauma ward orderly, and even a Wall Street suit before he found his way to being a famous novelist.

John Grisham is a famous novelist. Ernest Hemingway was a famous novelist.

Phillip Meyer is NOT a famous novelist, at least not in this house. Before this TV adaptation, I'd never heard of him.

And keep off my damn lawn!

Interesting interview. There is a sense, I think, I which he is correct. I was married to a woman who worked in PR, then in advertising, then in marketing, and was always dissatisfied. She realized, finally, that she wanted to write, and began getting up at 4 AM to write before she went to work, wrote almost all day on the weekends...This did not help our relationship, I should add. Eventually--in 2001, after about 5 years--she sold her first book. She's now published 12 books (although, from some things she's mentioned--we are still in touch, and probably more comfortable with each other after 14 years of divorce--she still does marketing consulting). If anyone cares:

Nice website. Not my kind of books, however.
