But seriously. That's overall not a bad list (I agree with Jeff about American Psycho), but I am surprised no one mentioned The Catcher in the Rye.

I thought it was pretty good, too. Covers a lot of ground.

Always partial to Lonesome Dove myself. It seems to say more about the American character than any novel I can think of.
