Fidel Castro, R. I. P.

he New York Times: Fidel Castro, the fiery apostle of revolution who brought the Cold War to the Western Hemisphere in 1959 and then defied the United States for nearly half a century as Cuba’s maximum leader, bedeviling 11 American presidents and briefly pushing the world to the brink of nuclear war, died Friday. He was 90.

Hat tip to Deb.

Dictator, oppressor, and (along with his thug pal Che Guevara) a mass murderer. I don't believe he deserves the "RIP" tag.

I agree with August. Castro was a rotten bastard.

I don't even think he deserved to be played by Jack Palance!

My comment, first made elsewhere, was that he was not as awful as Batista, during whose rule Cuba was run by an alliance of American mobsters and Cuban kleptocrats. But bad enough. The question now is whether, after 60--really, 70+--years of despotic rule, Cuba can recover.
