A fairly serious question: Has Amazon effectively killed book clubs? (There was a time when I was a member of the BOMC, the Mystery Book Club, the History Book Club (which went to hell when the BOMC acquired it), the Library or Urban Affairs, the Literary Guild, and the Science Fiction Book Club simultaneously. I was at the time living in small towns in West Virginia and then Kentucky, so going to a book store was not an option.)

I was a member of several book clubs, too. I know that Book of the Month, the Science Fiction Book Club, and the Quality Paperback Book Club are still around. Not sure how healthy they are.

QPB being a branch, back when I was a member, of BOMC...I was think how m first was the D-day BC, the slightly shorter-named '70s version of the Dollar club.

I certainly preferred my Hawaii membership in SFBC to the New Hampshire deal...they didn't automatically send books to Alaska or Hawaii, making that aspect of the Doubleday clubs much less inconvenient.

This one isn't quite FORBIDDEN LOVE, but certainly has the same DNA...

I see that most of the old D-day clubs are still on progress, including the Mystery Guild, though the new owners (not anything like the D-day folks in Garden City) have folded the romance club into the Doubleday Book Club. I wonder how many decades it's been since the folding of the historical fiction club...I bet you have a good idea when the Detective BC, and its three-book omnibus, gave up.

No, but one of my book with Willard Scott got into one of those 3-volume omnibuses.
