George Kennedy, R. I. P.

'Naked Gun' actor George Kennedy dead at 91: George Kennedy, whose film and TV roles ran the gamut from a pugilistic prisoner in Cool Hand Luke to a Dallas oil Tycoon and, of course, in the Naked Gun and Airplane movies, has died, the Associated Press reported Monday. He was 91.

Bummer. He was also one of three Oscar winners playing bad guys in CHARADE opposite Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant. (The others were Walter Matthau and James Coburn, of course.)

I guess you mean the "Airport" movies, though of course he did the "Airplane" spin offs with the Naked Gun stuff. Spartacus, Charade, The Dirty Dozen, Cool Hand Luke, Airport, and so many more. Great body of work.

To my mind, his greatest moment in the Cinema was when john Wayne hit him with the pick-handle in SONS OF KATIE ELDER. I still haven't figured out how they did that!
