Ted Cruz, however, thinks they might have New York values.

One of my friends got her MFA at Texas Tech in the 1980s. I went to visit her a few times--and, once, we got snowed in for over 24 hours! "This is not the Texas weather I was looking for," I exclaimed more than once.

Love those guys.

Deb, they definitely get snow out there. I knew that. They get an average of 8 inches a year but obviously a lot more when you were there. They have been as cold as 17 below zero, which is a few degrees colder than the all-time record in New York.

Lubbock is a long way from Alvin geographically if not culturally.

At least in the 1980s, I met plenty of Lubbockians (?) who had "New York values." But, of course, this was a college crowd, mostly getting advanced degrees in the Arts.

My favorite "New York values" story was the medical students studying abroad in Perugia, Italy in 1976 or so. I felt like I was at home, even to the pizza.
