Archers of Loaf? Clinic? Destroyer? And the songs chosen for the acts I do recognize are laughable (Bob Dylan, "Ballad of a Thin Man"--really?).

/I gave up at about that point--although I should have known better when "How Deep Is Your Love" was chosen for the Bee Gees.

What would you have chosen for the Bee Gees?

While I was amused by the Bon Jovi comment - could Jann Wenner be behind this list? - most was ludicrous. I was not surprised at how many groups I either never heard of or heard of but have never listened to ever. (OK, I admit it, I'm old.) And "passing" rather than picking a Beatles song is weak.

They have the Beach Boys and Beatles but no Four Seasons, no Motown groups, no Elvis, not even Meat Loaf, and that is just off the top of my head.

Their stuff always skews too young and too new but this is just stupid.

They better keep off my lawn.

No Meat Loaf, but Archers of Loaf? What were the criteria to get on the list?

/And Bill, I would choose "Fanny"-- and I may be the one person in the world that would.

Followed by:

"Lonely Days"

"Night Fever "

"Edge of the Universe"

How about The Beatles, Deb? Bill?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I like "Lonely Days" for the Bee Gees. I don't know about "best," but my favorite Beatles song would vary from day to day. I like early Beatles, like "I Feel Fine" and "I Want to Hold Your Hand." So many great Beach Boys songs to choose from, too. Again, I like the early stuff. "409," "Fun, Fun Fun," stuff like that.

Right now, this minute, I still couldn't narrow it down to more than "Rain", "I'm Only Sleeping@, or " She Said".

/IMHO, "Rubber Soul" and "Revolver" should be one double-album.

It changes frequently, but:

In My Life
A Day in the Life
I'm a Loser
Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da

I like a lot of the early stuff (the Beatles '65 era) and Rubber Soul is my favorite album.

I'd go with Revolution, Hey Jude, or When I'm 64, though my favorite album is probably Revolver.

I didn't even bother to read the list. That said, I'm commenting on the other comments. "Fanny" is a Bee Gees song? Really? Never heard of it. For early Bee Gees I like "Holiday", for later it's hard to top the disco songs like "Dancing". I think "How Deep Is Your Love" is a great song.

Beatles, well it's all up to the individual, isn't it? I like "Things We Said Today" a lot, and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Magical Mystery Tour", "Hey Bulldog", "He's So Heavy", "Judy in the Sky With Diamonds". I like Revolver and Rubber Soul and lot but none of the songs jumps out right now.

Lucy, of course, not Judy.

Other songs have grown on me over the years, like Across the Universe.

Beach Boys : I like Pet Sounds a lot.

Favorite songs include Help Me Rhonda, their cover of Barbara Ann, Caroline No, God Only Knows, I Get Around and Jackie's favorite - the flip side of I Get Around, Don't Worry Baby.

Jeff

Beach Boys: "Don't Worry Baby", "God Only Knows", and "Heroes and Villains".

Rick was probably conflating John Fred and the Playboy Band's "Judy in Disguise with Glasses" and "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds."

Jeff Meyerson said...

Rick, the song is Fanny (Be Tender With Your Love).

U like early Bee Gees like To Love Somebody, Massachusetts and Words. As with the Beach Boys I like the harmony stuff best.

Jeff

Jeff Meyerson said...

I, not U.

Deb: Thanks! Now that I listened, yes, I've heard it, I just didn't realize the title, thought it was "Be Tender With My Love"

Jeff, Bill, yes, Lucy, Duh and I was probably mixing the two.

I bought the first BGs album and played it a lot. "Every Christian Lion-Hearted Man" was another one I liked.

Beach Boys: Fun, Fun, Fun, Don't Worry Baby, Surfin' USA, Good Vibrations, I Get Around, Help Me Rhonda..........

"New York Mining Disaster 1941" was the earliest one I remember.

Just looking at the list tells us it was assembled by a bunch of callow punks who are still waiting for their testicles to descend. In the cases of the few bands I've ever heard of, they seemed to go out of their way to pick songs that weren't the big hits.

They can go back to flipping burgers, now.

The ENDLESS SUMMER-collected track I'd mention is "The Warmth of the Sun"...the precursor to just about everything about PET SOUNDS.

I suspect the first two Beatles songs I loved were "Ticket to Ride" and "Got to Get You Into My Life".

Well, nothing I've heard since from the Gibbs was as bad as "I Started a Joke," which I've hated since I was about six...but they never makeup for it, either...

52. The Bangles - “Eternal Flame”--absolutely not. Could be more incorrect only with difficulty. "Dover Beach' or "Between the Two" or damned near every other song they wrote.

Yes, on "Dreams" for Fleetwood Mac, but that comes close to the other No Kidding? biggest hit selections.

"The ultimate argument settler," and then they have "The Ballad of a Thin Man" as Bob Dylan's best song? Maybe somewhere in the top 100...

CSNY, "Our House"? Really? What a piece of pap. "Teach Your Children" or "Almost Cut My Hair." (Although, to be honest, I thought some of the things without Neil--"Suite: Judy Blue Eyes"--topped what CSNY did.)

Eagles--"Heartache Tonight"? Cleary, clearly, "Hotel California." "Life in the Fast Lane" is also better.

Grateful Dead--"St. Stephen?" No..."Touch of Grey."

Neil Young, "Harvest Moon"? No way..."After the Goldrush" and "Only Love Can Bring You Down"--back-to-back on the album...

The Clash--"Magnificent Seven"? Uh, what about "London Calling"?

This entire list is pretty much trolling, actually.

Don Coffin said...

That should be "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" of course...
