Toys in the Attic

When we moved here in 1983, we bought a bunch of boxes of stuff from our home in Brownwood.  I put them in the attic, where they've remained untouched until now.  Yesterday my son was here, and he went up there to go through some of the boxes.  He found his Shogun Warriors (you can see them over there to the left), his Hot Wheels, and his Micronauts.  He found his Evel Kenievel Stunt Cycle action figure.  He found his Battlestar Galactica lunch box.  All this stuff was in much better shape than we thought it would be. But he's bummed because he didn't find his Star Wars figures.  Who can blame him?

Very nice stuff! It's great to find unexpected treasures in your house!

Ah, we should all find attics from our childhood. My dad was an itinerant cowboy and cook, and we moved a lot, leaving my toys behind. Guess that's why I'm a hoarder today (lol). I never want to throw anything away, especially books (g).

My parents didn't save anything, either, Tom, so I'm a hoarder, too.

Even without the Star Wars stuff it's probably worth money. They look to be in nice shape too.

I think they beat the Transformers to the market by a month or so. Seemed very cool at the time.

There's a FB site for toy collectors and a few of these turned up for sale recently.

Alas, we, too, moved a lot and many of my treasures were lost or left behind.

Your son may either be funding his retirement or a very nice dinner out! And, as noted above, it's the boxes that count. Any avid viewer of Antiques Roadshow knows that.

Mike's mom got rid of most of his Star Wars stuff when he was in the Navy. He is now trying to recreate that collection. I didn't have any toys I wanted to keep, except books. Good luck finding the Star Wars stuff!

We had our kids' Cabbage Patch dolls and My Little Ponys for almost 30 years. The girls finally chose the ones they wanted to keep and helped us clear out the basement by that much. Also had concert T-shirts from the late '80s and early '90s: The Monkees (from their 20th anniversary tour minus Mike Nesmith), Fleetwood Mac (Billy Burnett era), Vanilla Ice.

I haven't kept a thing. Wish I had.

I worked for a toy store when my kids where young. So my oldest son had a lot of star wars stuff. He still has a lot last time I asked. The toys now days can't compare.

My mother kept Star Wars figures and Hot Wheels and some other toys. I gave them to my kids. My children took care of wearing out what my brother and I did not get to.

I still remembered which toys were mine and which were my brother's. There were a couple of my brother's toy cars that were in good shape. Two to three years ago I told my older son, Quentin,(when he was 8 or 9-years-old) that we should take them with us when we visited my parents because my brother would be there and Quentin could show him the toys. Quentin refused to bring the toys along on the trip. Quentin would not admit it, but I'm pretty sure he thought my brother would want to claim the toys back.
