Truth is, I'd like to pretend the last few episodes of the original didn't exist.

How about the latter season? If anything, I took the last episodes as improvement on the second season's beginning...the film wasn't too bad, but the first season was better.

I didn't have the heart to see the film. My son was a big fan of the show, but it pretty much lost me after the first season.

Ray Wise and the resolution of what Bob was about was pretty powerful. Wonder what the launching point of the third season is likely to be. Given it's Lynch and Frost, it might have roots in the atrocious ON THE AIR...slapstick is beloved by Lynch, and he has no knack for it whatsoever (as the second season premiere abundantly demonstrated).
