Joe Gores, R. I. P.

Janet Rudolph reports that Joe Gores has passed away. I've read his books for nearly 40 years, most recently Spade & Archer, the quite good prequel to The Maltese Falcon. My sympathies to his family and friends.

Sad to see this. A very fine writer.

OH MY! He was a very good writer and a great guy!

I am so, so sorry to read this! I wondered a little when I didn't get a Christmas card this year. He wrote me into a book as the villain and told me I'd be appearing again in the next DKA, a series I absolutely love. Darn.

I didn't know him, but I read most of his books over the years, loved the DKA series and SPADE & ARCHER. Very sorry that he's gone.

Oh man, that sucks. I met him at a signing for Spade and Archer, my husband and I had been reading his books for years. A VERY nice man who took the time to chat with me about characterization and plot of books now, as compared to the heydey of Chandler and Hammett. I had a great time - R.I.P.

Oh man, what a bummer. I've loved Gores' books and stories for as long as I can remember. I still remember when the late Ellen Nehr lost a bet and had to read his INTERFACE.

His DKA File stories are great and I liked HAMMETT and SPADE AND ARCHER.

Ellen's review of INTERFACE should be required reading.

Sad. I really enjoyed his work, and, from the above comments, he was as fine a person as he was a writer.

Joe was a fine writer and a great, great guy.

Barb and I got to know him and his wife when we were all guests at one of Don and Abby Westlake's Mohonk mystery-game weekends. What fun.

He was a writer of the MIKE HAMMER show (Stacy Keach version) and did some of the best scripts for that series.

One of the very best of his generation, and one of the few real PIs to write private eye fiction.
