I've got the entire Steve Bentley seris. What a weird concept. A hard boiled accountant moonlighting as an amateur PI.

I swear to you, Bill that when I was just crawling on all fours and using books for blocks, my mom had so many of these lurid covers. Maybe that is why I am so warped toeay...

Have no idea if the book is any good or not, but I CAME TO KILL is a wonderful title.

He was a much better writer than a burglar. Plus I agree with Glen-what a weird job for a p.i., accountancy. Though the Bentley series was very upper crust Washington. I got the impression that crazy rich generals were fine with Hunt but just plain rich people were to be scorned. I enjoyed a lot of his books. And as I liked to remind me people who think all of us Hunt fans are nuts...in 1947 Esquire named Hunt along with Vidal, Mailer, Willingham and two others as the most prominent young novelists to come out of the war. The guy could write.

Since I am a big menswear guy, I love analyzing the outfits on these paperback covers (and then copying them out of my wardrobe). The man on the "I Came to Kill" cover is pretty snazzy in his tan suit, dark shirt, and gold tie. That'll be my garb this coming Monday (complete with the fedora). Look out, Carson City!

After the Watergate revelations, Hunt churned out a bunch of books to pay for his legal bills. I have a few of those. They're not as finely crafted as the Steve Bentley series (and the cover artwork isn't as good), but they're enjoyable.
