I had a craving for "Popeye Puffed Wheat Cereal" and "Kix." People always told me that they tasted like cardboard.

Uck. I never have eaten any of these, and as a kid the available choices, as provided by my parents, who had no sympathy for a child's please for the one that was on TV, were Shredded Wheat, Grape Nuts or Raisin Bran. I usually pick the latter. I once tried Lucky Charms and thought it was awful. I've never had most other popular cereals, like Wheaties, Corn Flakes, Captain Crunch, Coco Puffs, Fruit Loops, Kix, Frosted Flakes, etc. The preferred breakfast item - at least when it was cold - was Oatmeal, Cream of Wheat or Cream of Rice. Oatmeal with raisins and a little brown sugar is still my favorite, though I eat Smart Start or Total fairly often.

The oldest ones, such as oatmeal, shredded wheat, and even corn flakes, taste better and are healthier. I avoid anything that is sweetened, which may be why I don't have a variety of ills that afflict the young and that would largely vanish if the young got honest food.

I agree with both Richards. My choices are Cheerios (plain, none of that honey-nut junk); shredded wheat (ditto); or oatmeal. My husband would eat Captain Crunch, but lactose intolerance has caught up with him, so he usually eats toast and fruit. One kid likes granola (I try to buy a healthier brand--some of them have tons of sugar), the others prefer yogurt or toast. Once in a while they'll ask me for some kind of corn puffs--but after a couple of days, the box just sits on the shelf.

Working in a school, I can tell you that our kids get too much refined sugar in their diets, especially at breakfast. They're swinging from the light fixtures until about ten, when they suddenly crash until lunch time.

I'm lactose intolerant also and have substituted fat free milk with "Silk." I like it- It tastes almost like whole milk. You wouldn't want to be near me if I consumed any real milk products.

Corn flakes, Cherrios, raisin bran, or Rice Krispies is all I've ever eaten. Even as a kid I didn't want sweetened, candy-like cereals.

I think that they forgot Fruity Pebbles, Apple Jacks, and Cookie Crisp but I used to eat any kind of breakfast cold cereal and felt pretty guilty when I became aware of what a diet meant!
