BILL CRIDER'S POP CULTURE MAGAZINE
"A modern spiritual," says Lawrence. Yikes! What did he and his squeaky clean singers think a toke was? Or did they think?
Perhaps they thought - if indeed they thought - it meant this, which I found in the dictionary:"a tip or gratuity given by a gambler to a dealer or other employee at a casino."
By the eay, Bill, congratulations on reaching the 10,000 mark. Wow.
Lawrence Welk pro'bly figured with the name Jesus in the song it had to be totally ok, especially if it was on the charts. And If I know musicians, everyone else in the band likely gleefully encouraged this. And besides, if you said to Welk, "But this is about dope smoking" he'd start interrogating YOU and then it could get real messy real quick.
Ha ha ha HA HA HA HA! Some family members had to really TAKE that when someone forced them into the Welk show...
Further congrats, Bill! This must be the most popular clip for nonfans of Welk ever.I think JJ has it all worked out correctly.
"Wunnerful, wunnerful . . ."
