That sounds like the plot of Mark Haskell Smith's "Delicious."

I really thought it was some horror film.

Anthony "Gaspipe" Casso and Sammy "The Bull" Gravano, a couple of executives in the New York mob worked the same way ... except over and over ... Gaspipe would whack some contractors after they did work on his home rather than pay them ... Gravano would partner up with construction companies, then whack his partner and take it over.

But I'm not sure which is worse, what these guys did or the fact the government (in both cases above) cut them deals to become snitches.

Seriously, how do you cut deals with serial murderers?

I've wondered the same thing, but it's done all the time.

They let Gravano go to get the bigger fish and then Gravano tried to become a big fish himself. At least he got caught the second time and went to jail for good.

I read Contract Killer about Tony Frankos who confessed to killing a hundred or so people and turned to the government as a witness. He had the audacity to complain that the government was being unfair to him while he was in prison.

CORRECTION: Donald Frankos.
