A couple weeks ago on Little Steven's radio show he had some interesting stories to tell about the music for the film. If I remember correctly, the producer's son was a fan of early rock and R&B and the dad heard it and put it in the flick.

After listening to Steven's story I borrowed the DVD from the library but still need to watch the dang thing.

I loved it long ago, and I think it holds up pretty well. I say that though I haven't seen it in quite a few years.

I found it unconvincing, particularly the scene in which the teacher possessing irreplaceable jazz discs thinks nothing of bringing them to his class of chimps and hyenas, and they gibber and hop as they smash same, as he sits, aghast. Uh-huh...that's happening, I thought.

Vic Morrow was particularly good in that movie as was Poitier.
