Summer Songs

I've revamped the Jukebox and added a couple of my favorite summer songs. Check 'em out.

Excellent choices, even though I always thought Jerry Keller sounded an awful lot like Bobby Rydell.

My favorite summer songs includes Summer in the City by the Lovin' Spoonful (very relevant to NYC)

"Summer in the City" is #1 on that EW list of top 100 summer songs. And it's a great one.

ah, musical criticism. I'm up for this if anyone ever was. That first one, "summatime summatime sum sum summatime" ? ....faaaantastic. it was a masterpiece of genuinness for kids. no big production, a dorky mandolin, a really bad ordinary guy singing real terrible but really cool popping in and out, and a brilliant composition makes it a stand-alone giant. that other one, whatever it was, was bikini-movie level song in writing and production. it probly CAME from a movie. i'm delighted to say i dont recall ever having heard it before. and bobby rydell had some fire. this guy sounded like jerry vale's sappy protege. "summer in the city" is one of those songs that conjures up whatever you were into at the time it was popular. it's like "theme music" to your life at the time. which obscures fair judgement. I mean, there's a very good chance that - unlike summatime summatime - it sucks. but i never turn it off if i come across it and always listen to the end just cause it takes me into a whole nuther universe. which was pretty much where i was at the time.

I'm always glad to hear a good word about Bobby Rydell.
