One Toke over the Line

When I saw this "modern spiritual" on Boing-Boing, I couldn't believe it.

lawrence welk had no clue what a toke was. or what a minor chord was.

I don't think the singers had a clue, either.

Oh, I suspect they well might've. They seem pretty happy with themselves even for Welk show singers...I do think, however, that if this didn't inspire a lot of A MIGHTY WIND, it should've.

I hadn't thought of the resemblance, Todd, but now that you mention it, there's a strong one.

It seems to me that Myron had been partaking a bit before announcing "Gail and Dale". I'm also pretty sure that we won't be singing that little ditty at prayer meeting tonight.

On another note, when we had to make up evidence to back up our arguments on the HS debate team we'd often cite the work of Ima Toker of the Senate Joint Committee.

You must have won all the debates with an authority like that to back you up.

The people on the Lawrence Welk show lived a pretty exciting life offstage. At least that's what the Lovely Little Lennon Sisters told me at the orgy.

Now there's a story you should put on your blog, Cap'n.

This is hilarious. Not only the song but those outfits. Joe

I have played this video numerous times. And the entire story was mentioned onstage at a Brewer & Shipley concert [though they said they would be very glad to see this segment, and since it is now online chances are they have, by now].

A very funny idea to hear a reference to - well, maryjane, and then have it described as a Spritual or Christian song... great stuff. If only Welk had known...
