From Roger Ebert's Review of Starting Out in the Evening

I wish I could have said it this well.

:: rogerebert.com :: Reviews :: Starting Out in the Evening (xhtml): "I am no novelist, but I am a professional writer, and I know two things that interviewers never believe: (1) the Muse visits during, not before, the act of composition, and (2) the writer takes dictation from that place in his mind that knows what he should write next."

As you know I'm nor generally an Ebert fan - he praises way too much crap for my taste - but this is a very good review. I just read the book and it sounds like the movie follows it closely. It's definitely on our list of movies to see.
