Quote of the Day

From Stephen King: Any word you have to hunt for in a thesaurus is the wrong word. There are no exceptions to this rule.

Well, I don't know if I agree with that because sometimes you have trouble coming up with the precise word that best describes something. It's not always that you're looking for a fancier or more obscure word,

Given how sloppy King can be with his language, I wouldn't sweat this.

There is also those times where you have the word dangling around in your head but you need to stand on the thesaurus to reach it. So to speak.

That is totally false, untrue, deceitful, mendacious, lying, untruthful, fraudulent, dishonest; faithless, foresworn; evasive, disingenuous, hollow, insincere; artful, cunning, tricky, wily, sly; perfidious, treacherous, perjured, spurious, etc.

As I am currently reading the last of the "Bachman" books, I'd say that he stands by the quote (even in "death by pseudonym"). I've seen no evidence of thesaurus consultation in the first half of the book.

I have that book checked out from the library, but I'm not going to get around to it, I fear.

i would have to agree with king. anyone who needs a thesaurus is probably termawkly.

I started the Bachmann but returned it unread, so you're not alone, Bill.
