Congrats, Bill. Well-deserved and one of my favorite stories in DND.

Ditto. Does that mean you'll be coming to New York for the awards?

And here I was just about to complain that - as usual - I've never even heard of half of the nominees.

Anonymous said...

And amazingly, I've actually read all of the short story nominees. I'd vote for you.

But Stephen King as Grandmaster when there are still so many deserving mystery writers (which he isn't, mostly) who haven't been named, seems wrong.

Thanks, Jeff and Patti. We haven't made any plans about attending the Edgars yet. Still in shock.

Well, I came here to announce it to everyone and congratulate you, but Jaysus, what BSP!!!

Seriously, congrats on a well-deserved nom.

Unknown said...

Thanks, Paul. I don't indulge in much BSP, so I splurged.

Sarah Weinman said...

Fabulous news, Bill!

Ray Banks said...

Congratulations, Bill. And congratulations to David and Duane for having an Edgar nominated anthology... kinda.

If you win, d'you think you'll cry?

I would. Like with snot and everything.

Steven said...

Wow! Well deserved. Congratulations. Hope you make it up to NYC. Time to start writing the speech...

Jeff Abbott said...

Congratulations Bill and well-deserved and well-done!

Ray, if I win, I'll probably have a stroke. When you look at the other nominees, you'll see why. I'm working on my "it's an honor just to be nominated" spiel. I think I can say it with a straight face.

And Steven, thanks. I hope to be there.

Unknown said...

Thanks, Jeff!

FizzWater said...

Okay, I'd be happy if Bill won, but I'm not gonna cry with snot and everything like Ray is if Bill wins!

Maybe I'll weep silently.

Lance said...

Congrats on the nomination

Victor Gischler said...

You da man!!!

Dave White said...

Congrats!

So awesome.

Unknown said...

Thanks, Dave. There are so many good stories in that book (including yours), that I'm shocked mine was chosen.

Unknown said...

Loved your story, too, Victor. I'm still shocked mine was picked out of that great group.

Patrick Shawn Bagley said...

You rock, sir.

Way to go, Bill! I hope you win. BTW, there seems to be a lot of Sherlocke Holmes-related work on the list. Is it always like that?

Stuart MacBride said...

Well done Bill! Much deserved - it was a great story. We'll have our fingers crossed for you.

Fantastic news Bill. Great story in a great anthology.

Inasmuch as an award is only as good as those to who it's given, the Edgar is elevated by your nomination, Bill...break a raven!

Ms. Littlefeather might be available to accept in your stead if you for some reason can't make it to NYC...

Yes, Stephen King isn't much of a mystery writer (too often, he's not much of a writer at all, and then there are those occasions that make realize how good he can be when he tries), but I suspect that his GOH status won't spoil this ceremony for anyone...

Congratulations, Bill!! Anyone who hasn't read "Cranked", find a copy of DAMN NEAR DEAD... it's a hoot!!

Check out the Busted Flush Press website for more information on DAMN NEAR DEAD and other releases: http://www.bustedflushpress.com . There are several independent bookstores who have signed copies, but you can also order it through other indies, chain stores, and online retailers. Congratulations!

Unknown said...

Thanks to everyone. I'm going to try to remain humble and remember all the little people I've stepped on while making my way to the top.

Cap'n Bob said...

Bill who?

Cap'n Bob said...

Just razzing you, old pal. I can't think of anyone more deserving of some kind of award.
I'm surprised you weren't made Grandmaster. With all due respect to King, I don't think of him as a mystery writer.

Unknown said...

Well, he did write The Colorado Kid. And he's surely a descendant of Poe.

Walter Satterthwait said...

Hey, Bill.

Congratulations.

Regards,
Walter

Vince said...

Congratulations, Bill! Now at some point you have to sign my copy of DND.

Unknown said...

Drop by any day, Vince. Too bad I won't be at Left Coast Crime in Seattle next month.

Graham Powell said...

Congratulations, and congrats as well to David and Duane for publishing a terrific anthology.

Unknown said...

And we should also mention Bryon and Dave, whose blog project story was the precursor to this one.

Unknown said...

They really should give me some kind of award for the Paris Hilton coverage. Maybe the "It's Hot" award.

Anonymous said...

You write books?

Unknown said...

In my spare time.

Benjie said...

Can't let it go without joining the congrats bandwagon. So, Congratulations, Bill. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Unknown said...

Thanks, Benjie.

Unknown said...

I'm so proud of you Bill, I'm already crying with snot and everything. You rule.

Thanks for making the rest of us DAMN NEAR DEAD chumps look good by association...

Unknown said...

I certainly don't want to be around you and Ray when you two win awards. Not unless I'm wearing a raincoat. But thanks, Duane, and thanks for including my story in the book.

James Reasoner said...

Belated congrats from me, too, Bill!

Unknown said...

Thanks, James. It's never too late!

Anonymous said...

I missed this earlier. Congratulations! That's fantastic.

Unknown said...

Thanks, Barbara.

Juri said...

Congrats from me too!

Unknown said...

Thanks, Juri. I'm glad that Finland got the word.

Anonymous said...

You rock, Mr. Crider! Congrats!

Unknown said...

Thanks, Lonnie!

I'll congratulate you if you win. Apparently getting nominated, judging from ther length of the list that goes out the door and around the block, is easier than going through a WalMarft checkout line in over 40 minutes. Yes, I worded that correctly.

Unknown said...

And I didn't even win.
