Augustus Mandrell

Peter Rozovsky has a nice post about Of All the Bloody Cheek, the first of Frank McAuliffe's Augustus Mandrell novels. Peter also links to this excellent review/commentary on all three books of the series. As I've said before, the Mandrell books are wonderful stuff, and everybody should read them. I don't know if PointBlank is carrying through on its intent to publish all three of them, but I hope so. PointBlank was also supposed to bring into print the heretofore unpublished fourth book in the series. That's something I'd really like to see.

Thanks for the mention. I'm early in my acquaintance with Augustus Mandrell, and I've read wistful desires that someone publish heretofore unpublished Mandrell "commissions." I had not heard that there were any plans to do so, however. I'd love to see that, too.

Peter

P.S. For those unfamiliar with the great Augustus Mandrell, a "commission" is a case taken on by Mandrell Limited. Each story is titled for one such case: "The Dr. Sherrock Commission," "The Iranian Farmer Commission," etc.

Thanks for your kind compliment for my Augustus Mandrell / Frank McAuliffe review at Troynovant, and for helping keep the Augustus Mandrell legend alive!

The legend is decidedly still alive, at least with me. I've just finished Rather a Vicious Gentleman, and I posted about it here: http://detectivesbeyondborders.blogspot.com/2006/12/ahead-of-his-time-again.html I expect I'll comment again once I've read For Murder I Charge More, as well as miscellaneous post or two with overall impressions of the excellent oeuvre. And I'll hope for that unpublished fourth book to find its way into print as well.
