DisAstros

Here are a few things I'd like to know:

1. What changed Brad Lidge from one of the league's best closers into just another ordinary relief pitcher?

2. For that matter what happened to Morgan Ensberg?

3. Why didn't Jose Vizcaino start at shortstop in game 4? Adam Everett couldn't buy a hit and struck out in crucial situations at least three times in the Series. I think he might have had one hit in the four games with the White Sox.

4. Will the Chronicle break out that tombstone again? This time it might be deserved.

I feel your pain, Bill. When the M's won 116 games a few years ago they looked like a shoe-in to go all the way. They didn't even win the AL pennant. It's called choking. Not that I was disappointed with the outcome of this year's World Series, but I was hoping it would be a little more competitive.

Now, about that gentleman's bet we had....

Hey Bill, it happens. Some lesser-known guys come up big in the World Series - Gene Tenace in 1972 comes to mind - while other big stars (can you spell "A-Rod"?) fizzle out. It's happened to Gil Hodges and Dave Winfield and many others. It doesn't mean they suck in general, just this series.

Anyway, the White Sox were clearly the better team. And Houston's offense was really pathetic. I bet they wish they had Beltran back.

It's the curse of Dubbya. All of Texas is screwed till we get rid of him.
